Yes this is my first post in almost 1-1/2 years. What is my motivation to brush the cobwebs off the Dreamwalking vision? One, I truly love encouraging people to walk out their purpose in life. And two, I am a firm believer that the only failure you experience is when you GIVE UP and never return!
When I thought about this posting, my current fitness journey came to mind. I began working out again after experiencing ailments in my household for the last 2 weeks. I feel like I am starting over. Now most of us would feel like, “Man, after all of the work I put in!” Well to make the situation even better (sarcastically saying), I am recovering from an injury as well.
When you begin, again, you have to have the mentality switch of taking a FRESH START! You can not compare the new beginnings to where you used to be…better or worse. There is no looking back, just go for it! We are not failures because there is a pause in the process.
When taking a fresh start, here are some things that are great to do or have:
Great support system – family/friends/colleagues that support you and will support you with resources, wisdom and encouragement. My Fitness Parallel:I went to the Fit, Healthy & Happy (FHH) group and they were the best!!! I felt like I could do anything.
Clear your mind of what people will think about your renewed path. My Fitness Parallel:When I went to the FHH group I was not concerned that anyone would say , “WOW, she is really out of shape!” Thankfully, the group is a no-judging zone.
Be okay that it will take some effort to reach your goal. My Fitness Parallel:Yes, I had to modify some exercise moves that I previously could do without much effort. At the end, I felt great!
Belief in the ability to carry out the dream and make it a reality. My Fitness Parallel:I know without a double that I will excel my previous strength.
Do it! Don’t hesitate. My Fitness Parallel: The injury occurred the day before I planned to go to the FHH group for a P90x3 workout. Instead of rescheduling, I decided I would go and do what I could.
What would you do if you saw someone carrying out the very thing (like an invention, business, etc.) you dreamed about doing? Most of us will allow that to diminish our dream. Diminish means to become or to cause (something) to become less in size, importance, etc. (Merriam-Webster definition).
What happens when we let something diminish our dream? We start to look at it like it is less important. When we first received the dream we thought it was a great idea. Now that we see another person doing something similar it seems less grand. We need to challenge ourselves not to think this way. Isn’t it a good thing someone else has the same dream as you?
In the business world, similar products are made all the time. Does that seem silly to you? Why? Even though the items are similar they may serve a different purpose or demographic. For instance, there are various cleaning agents available. Our preference determines which one we purchase.
Do we want scented or unscented?
If scented, do we want Lemon Fresh or Fresh Meadow?
Do we want a cream or liquid based?
Will it be used to cleanse glass, granite, wood…?
Our DREAM still has a purpose no matter how many others are on a similar path. Do not minimize the adventure to your dream – NO MATTER WHAT!!!
How do we reclaim the excitement to complete our Dreamwalk? Take it one day at a time and celebrate the small wins.
Build a new software – Celebrate the purchase of the coding tools needed
Start a business – Celebrate when we finish the business plan
Feed the hungry – Celebrate when we volunteer at a community kitchen
We renew our confidence in the dream by stepping out and doing the thing that gets us an inch, foot, mile…closer to the vision.
Dream action(s): Invest in your dream!!! What is the first or next step that needs to be taken? Is there something you can do that fear or discouragement has caused you to halt? If so, do it. Your dream has a purpose, so act like it!
What is the motivation to fulfill our dreams? Is it to:
help a group of people
promote an initiative
increase health in ourselves and others
affect our families in a positive way
We need to be specific when specifying our motivation. Let’s think back to the moment that the dream first came to our heart and write it down. What was the dream before we touched or possibly changed it to fit our current lives? Now, record how the dream affected us. This is our true motivation.
We will need our motivation to explode within us. Why? There will be times that we may want to give up and abort the mission. When this time comes focus on what motivated us to start the dream walk. What drives our dream, will keep us from quitting, even if we are alone without encouragement from outside resources.
For example, we may want to quit exercising and stop eating healthier but our motivation is to be able to run a 5K for the first time. What is our motivation?
Dream Action(s): Write down the original motivation statement that came to your heart? Post it where you will see it. Keep on pushing towards the DREAM!!!
So here is a great question to ask ourselves – Am I a Dreamwalker? Most of us would say – MOST DEFINITELY!!! Just because we have a dream, may not mean that we are allowing the dream to flourish. Some people are those that have a dream but don’t want to be the one to implement it. This group would be categorized as visionaries. These are talented individuals that can clearly picture and communicate a mission. If they do not have the gift or desire to implement the dream they have no problem allowing someone to take the wheel. They also might be comfortable with being a passenger during the adventure.
But there is another type of person that considers themselves a visionary but does not want it to come to fruition (by their own hands or anyone else’s). This individual is a show stopper. The motivation of show stoppers could be fear of failure, doubt regarding the dreams purpose, intimidation, excuses, procrastination, pride, etc.
If we are finding ourselves showing the characteristics of a show stopper, re-adjust immediately! Deal with the issue at hand. Do not let anyone (including ourselves) get in the way of what has been placed within us to accomplish. We do not want to ever look back and regret not having an outcome due to ourselves.
Are we Dreamwalkers? YES WE ARE!!!!
Dream Action: Take a step towards your dream, immediately. Break the show stopper habits.
In previous posts we discussed various goal blockers. Now let’s talk about what to do about them. Some people may tell us to ignore these obstacles. This is partially true. We do not want what a person says to affect us from moving forward towards our dream. But honestly, some of the discouragement (through words, stats, etc) against our success could be true.
I know you were not expecting me to say that. I am not suggesting that we should internalize the negative statements. Instead we should make these possible blockers, Dream builders.
Examples of what a goal blocker can become with some thought and action steps are:
Ask yourself the hard questions to obtain key items that could prevent destruction to your dream. We should use the feedback from goal blockers for our good.
Now after hearing criticism – don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Let’s look at an example: Let’s say we want to write our first book and we currently have no experience. A goal blocker may state that we do not have an English, Journalism, Communications, etc degree or background. Even though this may be true, what can we obtain from this? Well, we could ask ourselves:
To be an author do I need to have the degree?
What skill sets are needed for me to write my book? Which ones do I have? Which ones do I still need?
Can I take a class or two (instead of 4 years in college) to obtain the foundation needed?
Are their seminars from those that our authors and were in a similar situation as I?
Should I ask a specific person to be my mentor, that has the wisdom and knowledge I need?
Basically, is there another way for us to build our way up and still continue to move forward? And yes, it may add time to our end result. But, if it is our dream it is totally worth it and we will love the journey.
This task of turning goal blockers to dream builders can occur during any stage of our dream journey. So embrace that factor that we would rather deal with it now than later. This step could eliminate the termination of our dream. So don’t run from it – run towards it. Appreciate the goal blocker and obstacle for giving us the opportunity to create a Dream Builder.
Dream Action: Think about 1-2 points provided by a goal blocker. Ask yourself the hard questions and produce dream builder steps (write it out in your journal) to maximize the opportunity at hand.
I know the title of this submission could cause us not to read further…so please do not stop here.
So what do I label as The Dream Killer? Look at the picture again in “A Dreamwalk Path” post (to see the photo – click here). Look at guilt & fear. These are the two items that we have a decision to control. What’s crazy is fear is displayed as the grim reaper. Why is that? The only Dream killer on any of our dreamwalk paths is ourselves.
No matter what a goal blocker says, no matter what stats or proven data is out there – if we take hold of it and become guilty or fearful, we will quit! What is the worst thing that could happen if we choose to continue down the path that seems impossible? Ok! Yes we could make a miscalculation or we could witness a major fall or glitch.
We have been taught that if we fail or have a mishap we can most likely hang it up. But in most major accomplishments in history they are foreshadowed by many blunders. When this happens we should learn and make adjustments to make the result a success. The ultimate failure is when we stop and dismiss our dream completely. So in conclusion, WE are the ultimate Dream Killer of our own visions if we decide to walk in fear instead of on our Dream Journey.
Dream thoughts: Have we believed the lie about our inabilities? Have we adopted the unfavorable stats and data? Or do we believe in the Dream with in us? Let’s reboot our mind and maintain the focus on the future accomplishments.
In the previous blog, a picture was included displaying a possible Dreamwalk scenario. What did you notice in the graphic?
Were there cheerleaders on the sidelines? Many of us are blessed to have a couple or maybe a few supporters. But many of our onlookers are those that could be categorized as Goal Blockers. Referring back to the picture – the folks on the side of the road were not holding pom poms but were preparing to use weapons to stop us, as the dreamer, from accomplishing our goal.
Examples of Goal Blockers are: Relatives, Friends, pessimist, society, research data, etc.
The interesting thing about some of our Goal Blockers is they see themselves as helping or protecting you from failing. This is noble but not helpful in your growth as a successful person, inventor, innovator, strategist, etc. Failure or mistakes, if used correctly, can be your teachable moment to bring us even closer to fulfilling our dreams. So how do we transform Goal Blockers into tools? (We will talk more about this in future post)
Dream thought: Is our determination to accomplish our purpose stronger than the obstacles on our Dreamwalk path? Be WISE and UNSTOPPABLE!!!
When we first figure out that we have a dream, our vision is focused on how things will be once it is fulfilled. We may think about:
How much income it will gross.
How many people it will help.
How it will enhance our family.
How happy we will feel when we cross the graduation platform.
How it will help our children or grandchildren.
But before we arrive to the accomplished goal, we have to take the walk…THE DREAMWALK. We get excited about how the walk is going to be so easy, we predict. And if we hit a glitch, it will be nothing to fix it. We imagine – a stressless or a minimal bumpy path. But here is a possible DREAMWALK scenario:
In the future submissions, we will discuss the various pieces of the DREAMWALK and what it takes to acquire the goal (Journey Survival Tactics).
Dreamwalk Action(s): Look at the graphic above. Write down – What are your obstacles? And why?

Before we go further into the Dreamwalk…What is your Dream?
I am challenging you to step out and think big!!! Any vision that you could finish tomorrow, with no assistance, is probably not a dream. It could possibly be a step towards the final plan.
Do you have the desire to:
Earn a degree?
Start a business?
Become debt free?
End homelessness in your community?
Become a part of you country’s government?
Whatever it is (and it can be more than one item) – WRITE IT DOWN! Do you believe enough in your life’s purpose to put it in black and white? If you do not accept it to be possible, you will sabotage its fulfillment.
Are you in or out? Make a choice – don’t sit on the fence. If you are not the forerunner of your own dream, who will? So take the first step and WRITE IT DOWN!
Dreamwalk Action(s): Get your portfolio, journal, composition book… Write down your dream(s).
Welcome to Dreamwalk!!! I am so excited about sharing, with you, the adventures of Marriage, Parenting, Business, Homeschooling, etc and WALKING OUT DREAMS. But even more enthusiastic about encouraging you in YOUR VISION, GOALS, PURPOSE, DREAMS (whatever you want to call it).
When you first recognize your DREAM It can be both extremely exhilarating and scary (possibly horrific). So join me as I provide an open door to how it is to think, implement and deploy purposeful aspirations.
